MAJ

MAJ is a reasonably low hour aircraft, and was based in Karamea at the time of purchase.  In early 2021, we were made aware that the owner no longer required the aircraft, and was happy to support WASSI by offering us a purchase opportunity.   

At about this time a retired Marlborough Sounds mussel farmer, Mr David McLaren, became aware of The Walsh and WASSI’s role in it.  David had a very long standing relationship with aviation, his father being a foundation member of the Nelson Aero Club, and David having learned to fly in a Tigermoth.  He also spent some time in the RNZAF.  David very generously funded MAJ’s refurbishment, avionics upgrade, engine replacement and repair and repaint in the WASSI scheme.

Supporters such as David are the backbone of WASSI’s strong beginning. MAJ is currently online with Mid Canterbury Aeroclub in Ashburton.
