JRS
Many Walshies fondly remember JR (John Richards), an air traffic controller at Walsh in the years when the tower was a small caravan. JR loved the Walsh, and frankly he was loved in turn, especially his propensity to enjoy Stones Ginger Wine and his angle box (‘60s Ford Anglia to the younger folk). JR passed in February 2021, and made a very significant bequest to the Walsh, half of which was allocated to WASSI.
ZK-ESI, a recently fully restored Tomahawk, became available in NZ. We re-registered this aircraft to ZK-JRS to reflect that this aircraft was JR’s contribution to our goals. Even though JR was not aware of the WASSI, it having formed while JR was settled in France, we feel sure he would have wholeheartedly supported us.
JRS is currently online with Mid Canterbury Aeroclub in Ashburton.
