NJT

We found this aircraft in California via a Tomahawk owners group. We asked a Kiwi supporter, who lived not too far from the aerodrome which was its home, to inspect the aircraft and to meet the owner.  N24634 had been a hangar queen for over twenty years and suffered significant cosmetic deterioration as a result.  That said, she had great bones and the owner was a good bloke, so we were confident in this purchase.

The regulatory aspects of importing an aircraft were fairly straightforward, but the logistical aspects were a learning curve, to say the least.  It was very unsettling to effectively lose track of the aircraft when US Customs impounded the container for inspection. It was certainly a relief when we opened the container in Nelson to find a complete, well packed aircraft.

This tomahawk was then reassembled, refurbished and transferred to be registered in New Zealand as ZK-NJT.

The registration NJT and repaint in orange in the WASSI scheme was chosen by the sponsor in memory of a loved grandchild taken too soon.

NJT is currently online with Mid Canterbury Aeroclub in Ashburton.
