The ZK-WKU Project
As part of the generous gift from the unfortunate winding up of the Wakatipu Aero Club, WASSI is in the fortunate position of being able to expand the fleet with a Cessna 172.
There will be a number of phases in this project; namely locating a suitable airframe, refurbishing it to the WASSI standard, dressing it in a livery that both matches WASSI standard, and signifies its ties with Wakatipu Aero Club (namely their burgundy colour), outfitting it with new avionics, and finally branding it as ZK-WKU to hark back to the original name of Queenstown airport.
This project is quite a major undertaking and will need funding beyond that provided by WAC.
If you would like to support this endeavour in a financial way contact WASSI directly with your details and we will contact you to discuss the best way you can assist.

Avionics Upgrades
Bringing older airframes up to current standards require a number of steps that each can be thought of as an individual project. After stripping, examining, and repairing the airframe comes the painting. Then a reconditioned engine is sourced and installed, and finally after the interior has been 'brought up to snuff' the dash panel is upgraded with such avionics as will cater for the modern GA environment.
Two of our airframes are due for that final step with MAJ, and JHF both heading into the avionics shop on their way back from the 2025 Walsh School.
